Every year, the Rare Breed serves as a vehicle to provide opportunities for youth development projects and community service projects. Over the years, the Rare Breed youth have:
Teamed up with the Springfield Police Department on two different occasions to clean up downtown's Park Central Square
The RBYOC Cider Days scarecrow building competition entry won "Best of Show" and a $200 grand prize. This is the sixth year the RBYOC has had an entry and the third selection for an award in a row. See scarecrows here.
Recently completed a clean-up of Fassnight Creek in conjunction with the Izaac Walton League of America under a Community Foundation of the Ozarks Youth Empowerment Project grant
Learned face painting and provided face painting booths for children attending National Neighbors Night Out and Housing Authority of Springfield's 2006 Block Party.
Conducted a car wash fundraiser and a bake sale fundraiser.
Volunteerd to participate in focus groups for various community entities such Every Kid Counts, Ozarks Fighting Back Advisory Board and Burrell Behavioral Health
Voluntarily worked with journalists seeking to raise awareness to the needs of homeless youth and to the RB center
Visited a class at Missouri State University and presented information about RB
The RB youth have also shoveled snow for business owners in the winter, conducted impromptu trash pick-ups downtown, helped organize and carry out RB open house, and many others.
